About nanometer

The nanometer is a unit of length in the metric system equal to one billionth of a meter (1 nm = 10-9 m), the base unit of length in the International System of Units (SI).

The nanometer (nm) is also equal to 0.001 micrometers (μm), or 10-6 millimeters (mm) or 10-7 centimeters (cm) (SI units of length), or 10 angstroms (Å) (a non-SI unit of length), or approximately 3.2808 × 10-9 feet (ft) or 39.37 × 10-9 inches (in), which are US customary / Imperial units of length.

The nanometer is commonly used in science as a unit of measurement for dimensions on the atomic scale and wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. For example, the wavelength for visible light ranges from 400 nm to 700 nm. The nanometer is also associated with the field of nanotechnology.
