The megawatt hour, or megawatt-hour, is a unit of energy equal to 3.6 × 109 joules (1 MWh = 3.6 × 109 J), the SI derived unit of energy.

One megawatt hour (MWh) is also equal to 3,600,000 kilojoules (kJ), or 860,420.65 kilocalories (thermochemical) (kcal), or 3.6 × 109 watt seconds (Ws), or 1,000,000 watt hours (Wh), or 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) or 0.001 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The megawatt hour is used for metering large amounts of electrical energy to industrial customers.
